Simply put, electric muscle stimulation trains your muscles in a way that traditional workouts alone cannot. It is a "best kept secret" many elite athletes and fitness enthusiasts use to enhance their workouts and training programs. Electric muscle stimulation (EMS) -- also known as neuromuscular electric stimulation (NMES), muscle stim or e-stim -- sends electronic pulses to your motor nerves in order to create muscle contractions.

When Compex electric muscle stimulation is added to your training, it helps maximize your muscular effort by engaging a greater percentage of muscle fibers. Compex targets both Type 1 slow twitch muscle fibers which impact endurance and Type 2 fast twitch muscle fibers with impact power and explosiveness. Compex can help your training efficiency allowing for enhanced fitness results.

Benefits Of Electric Muscle Stimulation*

Whether you're a weekend warrior looking to speed your recovery or an elite athlete trying to increase vertical jump,
Compex devices can help you reach your goal.

* Electro stimulation is not meant to replace your fitness routine, but rather enhance the workouts. Athletes can use pre-programmed workouts on the Compex device to help maximize their training.

Pre-designed Programs

The Resistance, Strength and Explosive Strength programs are designed to activate fast twitch, Type II muscle fibers (think power and force). By applying Compex technology to your muscles, you can increase explosive strength. And since Type II fibers are quicker to fatigue, use Compex Recovery to help those fibers get ready to fire again, faster! Find out more on the Compex Training Page.

Resistance

Designed to activate the anaerobic metabolism of the muscle, this program helps increase the time a muscle can maintain a higher work level. It is designed for sporting activities, which are characterized by a need for intense efforts to be maintained or repeated to approach the limit of muscle exhaustion.

Strength

Designed to help increase strength by imposing a high and instantaneous power working level on the muscles. It is specifically designed for sports characterized by a need for maximum but very brief strength contractions lasting 5-60s.

Explosive Strength

Helps to increase the speed with which maximum muscle strength can be supplied. Designed to improve performance in activities of very brief duration such as jumping, sprinting and throwing.

What is NMES?

Sport Elite muscle stimulator

Electric Muscle Stimulation has many names –EMS, NMES, muscle stim, and e-stim. Electronic pulses are sent to the motor nerves which create muscle contractions. Not all devices are created equal, power output and wavelength are the big differentiators on what a muscle stim device can and cannot do. Our top of the line devices allows the user to integrate EMS for multiple reasons including strength and explosive training, injury prevention through proper warm-up, and recovery. It can even help with your posture!

The electronic impulses are generated by the device and delivered through the electrodes. While a new user may find the sensation surprising Typical electrode placement is at the insertion and exertion of a muscle. When Compex electric muscle stimulation is added to your training, it helps maximize your muscular effort by engaging a greater percentage of muscle fibers. Keep in mind that if you want to be able to reach Type II a fibers, the device must be able to get up to 65 hertz. For Type II b fibers to fire, the device has to be able to go even higher, 95 hertz. The good news is Compex does just that!
