Using Compex electrodes correctly and extending their lifespan is key to maximizing satisfaction with your electrostimulator. Regardless of the Compex model you use or your goals, the quality of the electrodes greatly impacts the effectiveness of your sessions. To make the most of your electrodes without compromising comfort, follow these 10 tips.

10 Tips to Extend the Lifespan of Your Compex Electrodes

By following these guidelines, you can use your electrodes for a long time and replace them only when absolutely necessary.

  1. Apply electrodes on clean skin. Ideally, use them after a shower. If drying sweat is not an option, use a damp wipe.
  2. Avoid creams or oils on the skin. These substances irreversibly damage the adhesive conductive gel.
  3. Hair-free skin is better. Applying electrodes on shaved or hair-free skin helps them last longer and makes removal easier and more comfortable. If some hair sticks to the electrode, ensure it’s removed before reattaching it to the plastic backing.
  4. Pack them correctly. Place them back on the support plastic after each use, always on the correct "ON" side.
  5. Keep the support plastic clean. This ensures proper adhesion.
  6. Store them correctly. Keep your electrodes in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Excessive heat can degrade the adhesive gel. Seal them in their pouch to prevent drying out, or store them in the vegetable drawer of your refrigerator.
  7. Remove them gently. Slowly detach them if using a wired stimulator. Pulling abruptly may loosen the snap connector from the conductive gel over time.
  8. Use Compex Elastic Straps. When adhesion starts to weaken, use these straps to keep them securely in place.
  9. Clean electrodes when adhesion decreases. Use a damp sponge to gently clean the adhesive side, removing skin residues or dirt. After cleaning, apply a drop of conductive gel to improve electrical impulse transmission.
  10. Apply Compex Electrode Gel. If adhesion is low, and you feel tingling during use. Use elastic straps to secure the electrodes in place.

Electrostimulation is a safe and pleasant practice, but electrodes play a fundamental role! Even with these tips, replace them when they become too worn.

Compex Electrode Lifespan

The lifespan of Compex electrodes varies. Without much care, they typically last about 20 uses. However, with proper maintenance and by following these tips, you can extend their lifespan to up to 30 uses.

Why Choose Compex Electrodes?

Electrostimulation is safe for everyone when done with reliable, tested, and certified products. All Compex stimulators are rigorously tested to ensure safe use, primarily with our electrodes.

Using electrodes from other brands could alter the characteristics of the impulses transmitted by the device, and also potentially cause harm to the user or damage to the electrostimulator itself. We strongly recommend using original Compex electrodes, available for purchase on compex.com.

Tips for Proper Electrode Placement

Electrode placement doesn’t need to be stressful—you can’t hurt yourself! Keep these points in mind:

  • Choose electrodes suited to your goals.
  • Follow instructions on your device, the Compex website, or the Compex Coach app.
  • Avoid applying electrodes to the head, or face.
  • Generally, align them along the muscle line.

Good electrode placement makes stimulation more comfortable and effective. To achieve this, a fundamental accessory is the motor point pen.
