Relieve Back or Knee pain using TENS
When it comes to bodily pain and pain-related issues, there are often two culprits: the lower back and the knees.
The lumbar muscles as well as the abdominal muscles act as a belt holding our upper body in an upright posture. They help us support the loads we put on our spine. Often, these loads, coupled with a lack of muscle strength or deficient muscles, lead directly to back pain - one of the most common issues faced by people today.
As for the knee, this complex joint also supports a large part of the body's weight. It is subjected to various different movements and stresses. It is a joint that can wear out or tear over time, and it is sensitive to poor posture or excess weight. Sports injuries are also common for the knee. Sports activities involving sudden movements, twists, or impacts can cause knee injuries such as sprains, strains, ligament tears such as the anterior and medial cruciate ligaments (ACL and MCL), or meniscal tears. Osteoarthritis is also a disease that often affects the knee.
Back and Knee Wrap for Pain Relief
Compex offer two products that can be your best allies when it comes to relieving lower back pain or knee pain: the TENS and heat therapy back wrap and the knee wrap for pain relief.
Find out more about the benefits of the programs used by these 2 products in this article.
TENS and Heat Pain Relief programs for the Back or Knee
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) uses small electrical impulses delivered by a device and can help relieve pain in 2 different ways.
Transcutaneous TENS neurostimulation works in 2 ways: firstly, by diminishing the "aggression" signal (Pain Gate Control theory), and secondly, by promoting the production of "pain-relieving" endorphins.
This is a technology widely used by healthcare professionals such as physiotherapists or in pain management centres. One of the major advantages of this solution is the total absence of side effects, unlike taking medication. It is also a non-invasive method.
These are the methods that will be found in modes 2, 5, 6, and 8 of the back and knee wraps. These programs relieve pain in the area concerned.
- Mode 2: For mild to moderate pain
- Mode 5: For intense pain
- Mode 6: For very intense pain
- Mode 8: For extreme pain
Use these programs at an intensity that produces a light tingling sensation. Having too high an intensity can have a counterproductive effect.
Heat Usage: Thermotherapy is ideal for relieving musculoskeletal and joint pain (arthritis, osteoarthritis, etc.). Thus, heat is generally used to "restart" the work of certain muscles or joints when they are affected by an affliction.
By coupling the use of TENS with heat, you increase the benefits of these products. Both the knee and back wrap offer you 2 levels of heat to choose from, depending on your preference.
Muscle Relaxation programs for the Back
This program allows for the increase in the body's natural production of endorphins and acts on muscle tension and tightness by greatly increasing local blood flow. This allows for the elimination of accumulated acidic waste in the muscles.
Mode 4: For muscle pain
Use this program at an intensity that produces powerful but comfortable muscle contractions.
Muscle Work programs for the Back
As seen previously, improving the muscle qualities of the lower back will improve your quality of life.
There are 2 programs to strengthen your lumbar muscles in the belt with modes 3 and 7.
Mode 3: For those who have already worked with electrostimulation
Mode 7: For those who are new to electrostimulation
Use these programs at an intensity that produces powerful muscle contractions, keeping in mind that a higher intensity will activate a greater amount of muscle fibers, leading to faster improvement.
You can couple the use of these programs with plank exercises. Planks strengthen deep abdominal muscles (psoas, iliac, quadratus lumborum, transverse abs, and obliques) and the dorsal muscle chain in isometric contraction. During an isometric exercise, the muscles work without creating movement and without changing length. Use Abdominal plank exercises to lose belly fat and protect intervertebral discs. They also help develop proprioceptive balancing qualities by ensuring overall core muscle toning.
Proven Effectiveness
Backed by clinical studies proving their effectiveness, Compex stimulators also belong to the category of Class II medical devices. They also meet the needs of the European Medical Standard 93/42 EEC.
